Through my time in University I was lucky enough to learn the basics of SuperCollider from one of the best. I was never a very good programmer -technically speaking- but my passion to experiment has led me to many interesting sounds, patches and projects. Starting from now, I will be sharing some of the ideas, tools and prototypes I developed over the years. Unfortunately for those working with SC I will not be sharing too much of my code since I use many of these applications (such as Electricorn) on my services. Nevertheless, I think using SC for educational purposes such as understanding acoustics, practicing audio theory and learning electronic music synthesis is a pretty good idea and I am already working on it.
Electricorn is a digital synth I developed in SC and involves complex FM, AM, PM and ring modulation techniques. It is a unique tool for creating amazing Sci-Fi & horror soundscapes, textures and “straight out of space” film music . Furthermore, it can be used as a brilliant sound toy for creating funny sounds and bizarre loops for electronic music such as ambient, noise and other digital sounding rhythms & melodies. The interface I designed allows me to control many of the parameters through faders but it has an interactive use of mouse cursor to control a specific generator as well.
On the following video you can watch a demonstration of its amazing capabilities. After playing around with it for days I came to realise the huge possibilities. Even though I know how to create many effects and textures I’m still surprised of what a combination of settings might lead to.
Enjoy!
